RULES OF THE OLD STONE SEA ANGLING CLUB
1 All members must arrive at the designated meeting place no later than 30 minutes before the start of a comp.
If a member is delayed or late he must report to a Committee Member, who is booked in to fish, to confirm his attendance. Participants of all comps, including Rovers, will leave book in together, 30 minutes prior to start of comp.
2 Members may bring guests. Guests may fish in the Pools only, guests cannot win roleovers, irrespective whether they attended previous competitions. Guests may buy raffle tickets. The Committee reserve the right to refuse guests participation. Guests are subject to Member rules. It is the responsibility of host Members to ensure their guests are fishing within the rules.
3 Members must not start fishing until the official start time. Practice casting and line wetting is allowed prior to the start time, with no hooks attached.
4 Members must fish within the designated boundaries. Fishing from groynes is not permitted when an event has been designated as a beach only venue.
5 Traces may be baited ready before the start time.
6 Up to three hooks may be used whether it is a one-rod or two-rod comp. Treble hooks count as three hooks.
7 Spare/extra rod(s) may be taken to comps, which must remain separated at the joint, until ready for use. They may only be assembled when rod(s) in use are reeled in and separated at joint. If spare/extra rod is of a one-piece type it must be laid down with hook attached to reel or ring.
8 “Double Patting “ is allowed. The TOSSA definition of “double patting” is a spare baited trace ready for use, which may be exchanged for a spent trace. If baited trace is to be attached to spare/extra rod, then rule 7 applies.
9 Lures and Plugs fitted with multiple treble hooks are not permitted (See rule 6). Spinning is permitted provided no interfere or danger is caused by doing so. Mackerel are ineligible so feathers are not permitted. Beads, attractors and baited spoons are permitted. See notes on back of page.
10 All retained fish must be kept in a bucket of water. Fish must be brought to scales in a bucket. Every effort should be made to keep fish alive, so unwanted fish may be returned alive to the sea. No plastic bags, no sharing of buckets, no exceptions.
11 At the end of a comp, up to 15 minutes is normally allowed for a fish to be landed, provided the fish was hooked before the end of the competition time. Exceptional circumstances can be taken into consideration.
12 Any fish must be available for weighing no later than 30 minutes, or 45 minutes after a Rover, after which scales are closed at discretion of the Clerk of Scales.
13 If a dispute/doubt occurs over species identification, the Clerk of Scales may take advice off anyone that he deems appropriate. If the identity of a fish is still in doubt the Clerk of Scales may opt, at his own discretion, to weigh the fish as unclassified, or disqualify it.
14 If in doubt, any Member or Guest may ask, to witness the re-measuring of any fish, however the Clerk of Scales decision is final.
15 All grievances or disputes must be voiced at weigh in prior to points and prizes being awarded.
16 Any issues other than those covered by these rule, may be settled by reference to NFSA rules or at the discretion of
the Committee.
17 Members and guests are expected at all times to abide by any local rules and to fish in a manner, which causes no
danger to themselves, other Members or any Members of Public.
18 Members are expected to conduct themselves at all times within the spirit of the sport of Sea Angling and to honour
the Club motto which is “Friendship through Fishing”
During past events, Mackerel have shown up in shoals during competition times. Everyone enjoys catching them. It is permitted for Members fish for Mackerel with feathers during competition times provided:
1M Competitors declare they are Mackerel fishing.
2M Competitors fishing for Mackerel are not participating, in Competition until they have declared they have finished fishing for Mackerel.
3M While he/she is Mackerel fishing any other species caught other than Mackerel, are not eligible for weighing in as part of the competition catch.
4M During a one-rod comp, a second rod cannot be set up ready for Mackerel fishing and during a two-rod comp a third rod cannot be set up ready for Mackerel fishing.
5M While Mackerel fishing no other rods may be in use, and are subject to rule 7.
6M When a competitor has finished Mackerel fishing he must declare that he has done so and normal rules apply.
This is a good will rule, and is in place to maximise the enjoyment and productivity of a days fishing. The Committee reserves the right to scrutinize Mackerel fishing, and to reject any fish brought to the scales if there is any reason to believe they may have been caught on feathers.
Float fishing for Garfish etc is not deemed as Mackerel fishing. It is acceptable for any Mackerel caught in this way to be kept and used for bait, or for taking home.
