It's Monday February 15th 2010, despite a bitterly cold night with a fresh south westerly adding some wind chill factor, fourteen anglers turned up at Seaford Beach for the first match of 2010.
As expected this time of year we were plagued by great amounts of undersized fish, and some anglers struggled with the uncomfortably cold conditions, however a total of 53 sizeable fish were bought to the scales, a mixed bag of pouting, rockling and a dab.

Monday April 12th 2010, a fresh wind blowing from a north easterly direction, off the land, kept the temperature down though the sea stayed calm. Twelve anglers fished the newly introduced West Zone venue, ten of which fished the West Breakwater at Shoreham, one fished the beach near The Church of the Good Shepherd which only produced an undersized bass of 14inches, and one angler roamed around the area trying several different spots. Despite using a range of baits including red rag, blow lug, fresh black lug, king rag, mackerel, squid and fresh peeler crab only eight of the twelve anglers managed to weigh in a total of fifteen rockling. There were some undersized flounders and sole caught as well which were returned immediately. First place was tied although Mark Trott has set the field ablaze by scoring maximum points so far, meaning as the air and sea temperature warms up, and the summer fish arrive, so too is the battle for the Club Championship warming up.

Monday May 10th, a settled, though still very cold evening for the time of year, 11 anglers fished a six hour match on Hove Beaches. Once again a variety of undersized fish were landed including; a fourteen inch Bass caught by Rick Etherton, a Thornbackback Ray measuring fourteen inches across the wings caught by Malcolm Brain and several Flounders and Soles just about half an inch undersize, most of these fish would count if we operated a "catch and release" method of doing things. Catch and realease is fine if the angler next to you is not to busy to witness your catch and sign your card immediately, though it is all to often the case where the fish is out of the water too long and ends up dead. It's worth noting The Old Stone Sea Angling Club minimum retention size limits in some cases are greater than many other Clubs which means we don't weigh in as many fish though we do return most of what we catch to the water immediately and unharmed, a practice we are very proud of.

Monday May 24th, we fished in lovely warm settled conditions on the West Breakwater at Brighton Marina between 6pm and midnight. A great night for some though not so good for others, a club record broken and lots of lost tackle. Fishing on the extension of the West Breakwater is fairly touch and go, depending on where you are positioned, there are plenty of mussel beds and other features on which to get snagged. The trick is, when the tide is running, use a fairly heavy breakaway type weight, set the weight as soon as it hits bottom, keep the rod tip high and reel in fast. Well done Lee Moran for catching a 1lb 6oz Black Bream, which is a new record, also to Mark Trott who landed a Bass weighing 1lb 6.25ozs, had the fish weighed and then returned it alive, it's always pleasing to see these fish swin away. Lee Blackmore and his son Oliver caught three decent Black Bream between them, Russell Trott weigh in a sizeble Pout, though for the rest of the thirteen anglers who attended, it's "better luck next time".

Monday June 7th, the TOSSA's could be found at the East Arm Venue at Shoreham. Eleven anglers turned up, and only three weighed in. The best fish and first place was a Bass caught by Luke Morley. the only other fish weighed in were Eels caught by Rick Etherton and Rod Punter. Despite light winds and sometimes heavy rain, the fish were not stirring, live sandeels, live prawns and live peeler all produced nothing, the few fish weighed in were all caught on a variety of worm baits.

Monday June 21st at Newhaven. Nine anglers split into two groups, two fishing at The Hope, with the rest opting to fish the "wooden" arm. All the fish weighed into were caught on the arm. Congratulations to Peter Ellis Martin were the order of the day, not only did he win the comp he also became the 2010 knockout champion, beating Rod Punter into second place, well done Pete! A very scratchy day with only a few fish caught, a flounder, a wrasse and two pouting were the only sizeble fish caught.
